Startup Weekend Portsmouth Results

Last week, the Shawnee State University Kricker Innovation Hub hosted Startup Weekend: Portsmouth, a three-day entrepreneurial event held in partnership with Techstars. SWP immersed participants in the world of startups, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of business.

From the get-go, attendees dove headfirst into the action, pitching their visionary ideas, forging teams, and embarking on a whirlwind journey to bring their concepts to life. Fueled by passion and guided by mentors, they toiled away, transforming their dreams into tangible reality, all within the span of 54 intense hours.

The culmination of the weekend was a pitch competition, where participants had the chance to showcase their creations before a distinguished panel of judges. Among them were luminaries such as Sandy Barnabas, Co-Founder and CTO of mydigest.ai, Alaxandria Foreman, Portsmouth Economic Recovery Fellow, and Aravindh Manickavasagam, Sr. Technical Program Manager at Instacart, whose expertise lent an air of anticipation to the proceedings.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, whose contributions ensured that participants were well-fed and handsomely rewarded for their efforts. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Oddfellows, Port City Pub, Market Street Cafe, the Portsmouth Brewing Company, Patties & Pints, Glockner, Toro Loco, and the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group for their unwavering dedication to fostering entrepreneurship in our community.

Now, without further ado, let's celebrate the innovative ventures that emerged victorious from this spirited competition:

1st Place - Olive Branch Caregiving: This groundbreaking app promises to revolutionize end-of-life care by facilitating the sharing of vital health and legal information, providing invaluable support to caregivers and their loved ones.

2nd Place - Sweets for the Hart: Blending the artistry of woodworking with the allure of baked goods, this charming main street business captivated hearts with its unique fusion of craftsmanship and culinary delights.

3rd Place - Fallen Timber: Offering cutting-edge 3D printing and design services, Fallen Timber impressed judges with its commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology.

4th Place - Avionova: With its innovative approach to space tourism and healthcare, Avionova captured imaginations with its visionary device designed to enhance equilibrium and balance, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the future of interstellar travel.

As we reflect on the achievements of these aspiring entrepreneurs, we are reminded of the boundless potential that lies within each of us to effect positive change and shape the world around us. At Shawnee State University, we remain steadfast in our commitment to nurturing innovation and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship that empowers individuals to turn their dreams into reality.
