The Kricker Innovation Hub Has Been Awarded a Grant through the PepsiCo Recycling Zero Impact Fund
We want our campus to grow, not our carbon footprint. We face issues across the globe, such as excess waste and global warming, but we’ve decided to be part of the solution, not the problem. The Kricker Innovation Hub is excited to announce that we’ve been chosen as recipients for the PepsiCo Recycling Zero Impact Fund grant to make a positive impact through energy efficient lighting and a water fountain/bottle refill station in the Kricker Innovation Hub.
The PepsiCo Recycling Zero Impact Fund aims to encourage college campuses to become more sustainable and leave a positive social impact. The Kricker Innovation Hub sits in the heart of downtown Portsmouth and we believe that by adopting green initiatives we can be leaders in the community not just for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Creativity, but for Sustainability.
This grant allows Shawnee State University to combine energy efficiency investments with the renovation of the Kricker Innovation Hub, with costs savings reserved for future sustainable projects across campus.
This also allows the Kricker Innovation Hub to replace up to 250 individual lamps or bulbs and purchase one water fountain/bottle refill station. We will be able to replace outdated lights with energy efficient LED lights, minimizing our energy usage. Aside from saving energy we will also be able to prevent 6,000 pounds of waste over three years, through the replacement of plastic water bottles with a reusable water bottle filling station.
Thanks to the PepsiCo Recylcling Zero Impact Fund, Shawnee State University will be able to enact green initiatives on campus and continue carrying out sustainable efforts for years to come. These initiatives will be used to help inform students and our community about the benefits of sustainable behavior and encourage advocacy around important issues.
