Apply for Summer Internships at Ohio’s Top Tech Companies
Deadline to apply: February 26, 2024

The Ohio Department of Development invites college students with a variety of backgrounds and an interest in technology to apply for an internship. The Ohio Third Frontier, a Development program, is now accepting applications for the College Technology Internship Program through which students can gain experience at some of Ohio’s most innovative companies starting at a competitive rate of $15 per hour.

“This program gives students—the next generation of Ohioans— the opportunity to work in our most innovative fields and gain experience with jobs in our most influential, tech-focused industries,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “We’re creating a pipeline of diverse talent that will lead the charge in shaping the marketplace of the future. ”

Intern experience encompasses all areas of study, ranging from marketing and design, to engineering, mathematics, and software development. Interns have helped companies create mobile apps and websites, develop social media platforms, conduct market research, develop new Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies, and implement new software to modernize operations, accounting and enhance cybersecurity.

Through 13 rounds of the program, 902 interns have been hired. Of those, 82 percent have been African American, Asian, Hispanic, other ethnicities, and white females. While diverse applicants are encouraged to apply, all college students interested in technology are welcome.

Non-Ohio residents attending school in Ohio are encouraged to apply, and Ohio residents attending college anywhere in the United States are also eligible.

Internships for this round can occur between May 1 and Oct. 31, 2024. Student applications are open through Feb. 26.

Apply for Legislative Fellowship Program:
-
Republican Caucus, Democratic Caucus, or Nonpartisan LSC Fellows
-
Media Production Fellows
Deadline to apply: April 12, 2024

See the Fellowship Program Brochure or check out the website HERE.

The Ohio Legislative Service Commission is accepting applications for a new cohort of LSC Fellows. The new program cycle is September to September, and orientation starts in September 2024. Pay is $20.80 per hour/$43,264 per year + full-time state employee benefit package.

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree before the program starts. There are no requirements placed on major field of study except for the two fellows assigned to OGT/The Ohio Channel, who must have a media production or related degree or have acquired the requisite video production skills. The cohort application process opens in January with interviews taking place in May. Final selection decisions are made at the end of May or early June.

Fellows assigned to the House or Senate engage in constituent services, write speeches and news releases, conduct research, and perform administrative work. Fellows assigned to LSC draft legislation, perform legal or fiscal research, and attend committee meetings. Fellows assigned to OGT work as production assistants, where they assist in streaming legislative sessions and committee hearings and in the production of public service communications.

Although completing the 13-month fellowship program does not automatically guarantee permanent employment with the General Assembly or the state of Ohio, many fellows are offered permanent positions with the General Assembly as legislative staff or with state agencies as legislative liaisons as a result of participating in the fellowship program. Post-fellowship opportunities in the private sector have included positions with lobbying or public relations firms.
