Igniting Confidence and Success: How Caroline King Transformed Her Idea into a Winning Vision

In 2024, Caroline King joined the Ignite Portsmouth Bootcamp and Pitch Competition as one of thirteen driven entrepreneurs ready to bring their ideas to life. Over the course of an intense 8-week program, participants learned, practiced, and ultimately pitched their business ideas to a panel of expert judges—all vying for a share of $12,000 in seed funding and in-kind services.

Caroline’s idea, The Nest, a family resource center, stood out, and she walked away with the grand prize of $5,000. While she continues to work toward fully launching her vision, Caroline credits Ignite Portsmouth with giving her more than just funding—it gave her the belief that she could succeed.

“I am a shy, backwards country girl with a great idea,” she shared with a smile. “I was terrified to apply. Every single time I had to speak out loud at Ignite or make eye contact, I was terrified. At first, I just tried to blend in.”

But something changed as the weeks went by. Through workshops, feedback sessions, and a supportive environment, Caroline found her voice.

“I remember mentor week, week 6—I pitched in front of Ryan Schiesser and Jason Lovins. It was the first time someone outside my family had heard my pitch. Their feedback was powerful. It made me think, ‘Maybe I can do this!’ Ignite gave me the confidence to believe in myself. My confidence level has truly grown.”

For those thinking about applying to the next Ignite Portsmouth Program, Caroline has one piece of advice: Go for it.

“Don’t hesitate. If you have an idea, you are capable of great things. The Ignite team will fill you with confidence and give you the support you need to succeed.”

The 2025 Ignite Portsmouth Program kicks off on Wednesday, May 6th and runs every Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM for eight weeks. With only 20 spots available, now is the time to take that leap—just like Caroline did.
