ESPORTS AT SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY

Shawnee State University Esports exists to provide structured competitive opportunities that support academic achievement, personal development, and high-level play. We are committed to building an environment where students can compete with purpose, grow as leaders, and graduate prepared for careers in a rapidly evolving landscape. Our program is intentionally designed with multiple competitive tiers to ensure accessibility, development, and sustained excellence.

Varsity

Varsity represents the highest level of competitive play at Shawnee State. These teams compete in organized intercollegiate leagues against established collegiate programs throughout the region and across the country. Selection for varsity is based on demonstrated competitive ability, game knowledge, communication, coachability, and professionalism. Varsity esports athletes participate in structured practices, strategic review sessions, and performance development initiatives while maintaining strong academic standing. Scholarships are available for qualified varsity players who exhibit both competitive excellence and commitment to their academic progress among other metrics.

Academy

The Academy tier serves as a developmental bridge between club participation and varsity competition. Academy teams practice and compete in a structured environment while focusing on skill refinement, teamwork, and strategic growth. This level is designed for high-potential players who are committed to improvement and aspire to earn varsity placement. Through coaching, competitive experience, and performance feedback, Academy participants develop the consistency and discipline necessary to compete at the highest level within the program.

Club

The Club level provides inclusive access to organized gaming for students who want to represent Shawnee State in a more flexible format. Club teams participate in free play time and campus events while fostering community engagement and leadership development. This tier strengthens campus culture and provides opportunities for students to grow without the formal structure required at the varsity level. The Club environment serves as a landing spot for people looking to make friends and engage in games that don’t always fit the competitive mold!
