Building Bridges: Gloria Atuahene Brings International Perspective to the Kricker Innovation Hub
The Kricker Innovation Hub welcomes Gloria Atuahene as its newest Communications Assistant, bringing a fresh international perspective to Portsmouth's entrepreneurial ecosystem. As an MBA student at Shawnee State University and a native of Ghana, Gloria embodies the dynamic spirit of cross-cultural collaboration that enriches our community.
Gloria's journey to the Hub stems from a deep-seated passion for innovation and community development. "What primarily drew me to the Kricker Innovation Hub was its clear mission to foster innovation and entrepreneurial growth right here in Portsmouth," she shares. "I've always been fascinated by how new ideas can revitalize a community, and the opportunity to be at the heart of that process, particularly through contributing to student engagement in entrepreneurial activities, was very compelling."
Currently working alongside Hub Facilitator Josh Lawson with the Ignite Portsmouth Boot Camp, Gloria is already making significant contributions to the Hub's mission. Her role encompasses social media management, content creation, newsletter development, and event promotion – all crucial elements in strengthening the Hub's community impact.
The intersection of her MBA studies and practical work at the Hub creates a powerful learning environment. As Gloria explains, "My MBA coursework directly complements my work at the Hub. For example, my studies in strategic management and marketing provide a strong foundation for understanding how to effectively communicate the Hub's initiatives and attract target audiences."
Her international background offers unique insights into entrepreneurial ecosystems across cultures. "In Ghana, entrepreneurship is often characterized by a strong spirit of innovation born out of necessity; individuals are incredibly resourceful in creating solutions with often limited formal infrastructure," she notes. "Here in Portsmouth, while that same entrepreneurial drive exists, I've observed a more structured support system, with entities like the Kricker Innovation Hub providing formalized resources, mentorship, and access to capital."
The warmth of the Portsmouth community has made a lasting impression on Gloria. "Coming from a much different background, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but the warmth and genuine support from the people here have been remarkable," she reflects. Her integration into the community has been supported by both her academic connections and her church family at the Portsmouth Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Looking ahead, Gloria's aspirations extend beyond her current role. "Ultimately, I envision applying these learnings and the expertise gained from working here to contribute significantly to economic development in Ghana. I'm also keen on fostering a long-term working relationship with the Kricker Innovation Hub, potentially through collaborative international projects in the future.”
Her message to the Portsmouth community resonates with enthusiasm and openness: "I'd like the Portsmouth community to know how genuinely excited I am to be here and actively contribute, not just as a student, but specifically through my work at the Kricker Innovation Hub. I am deeply invested in seeing this community succeed and flourish… Please, don't hesitate to say hello or share your ideas – I'm always open to connecting!"
Through her role at the Hub, Gloria exemplifies how different perspectives can strengthen our local entrepreneurial ecosystem while building bridges between cultures. Her presence enriches the Hub's mission and adds a valuable voice to Portsmouth's ongoing economic revitalization story.
