GAMING SCHOLARS
Documentation must be submitted to aduduit@shawnee.edu. If you have a schedule conflict
or other issues with any of these requirements, please message ssucareers on Discord with an explanation and proposed resolution.
The following are REQUIRED to maintain your Choose Ohio First Scholarship.
If you haven’t already, join the SSU Choose Ohio First Discord HERE.
GPA of 2.0 or higher — These will be pro-rated — (e.g. 3.6 = 2,100 points, etc.)
Less than 2.5: Dismissed from the COF scholarship program.
2.5: 1,000 points
3.0: 1,500 points
3.5: 2,000 points
4.0: 2,500 points
FALL SEMESTER REQUIREMENTS — Due by Nov. 30, 2022
Review and update your resume/portfolio: 100 points
Post your updated resume/portfolio to both your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles:
200 pointsReview and update your Handshake profile, and set up at least five new job search alerts relevant to your major: 200 points
Follow at least 10 more companies relevant to your major on Handshake: 200 points
Review and update your LinkedIn profile, and set up at least five new job search alerts relevant to your major: 200 points
Follow at least 10 more companies relevant to your major on LinkedIn: 200 points
Schedule and attend an internship appointment with Angie Duduit, email: aduduit@shawnee.edu, phone (740) 351-3322 OR schedule through the Career Services office: 200 points. COF scholars who have already completed an internship are exempt from this requirement but are required to do the following:
Once you have completed an internship, you are required to report it through Handshake at THIS LINK.
Connect with at least ten more SSU alumni from your program on LinkedIn: 200 points
Go to the Shawnee State University LinkedIn page
Select the Alumni tab
Enter your major in the Search Bar to connect with SSU alumni who graduated from your program and are working in a relevant field.
SPRING SEMESTER REQUIREMENTS — due by April 30, 2023:
Attend and participate in Shawnee GameCon on March 10-11, 2023. Any cost for admission to the event will be provided: 500 points
Optional opportunities at GameCon for extra points:
Volunteer and work at GameCon: 300 extra points
Participate in the Capture the Flag contest: 300 extra points
Win the Capture the Flag contest: 500 extra points
Register for, attend, and visit with at least 75% of the employers at the Gaming Career Fair during GameCon on Friday, March 11, 2023. More details are forthcoming. Give each employer a hard copy of your resume, and get their contact information: 1,000 points
Attend guest lectures/Kricker Innovation Hub events — Events will be communicated through the Discord COF channel: 200 points for each attended
Participate in Startup Weekend in the spring of 2023 — 500 points — details forthcoming.
If your team wins Startup Weekend, you will receive an additional 500 points.

An acceptable substitute to Startup Weekend is a game jam event.
You get 1,000 points for participation in both Startup Weekend and a game jam.
Perform a successful internship or work-based requirement in which you perform duties that are relevant to your major (credit or non-credit): 1,000 points
Success will be determined by employer feedback.
Once you have completed an internship, you are required to report it through Handshake at THIS LINK.
Alternative: Register and participate in at least 75% of Spring 2023 Gaming Networking Series events — information and dates will be announced at the beginning of Spring Semester.
Extra points are available for the following:
Actively participate in the following Verizon Learning Initiative mentoring opportunity: 200 points:
Eight volunteers are needed on Friday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers would lead an informal campus tour and assist with a design challenge
or Minute-to-Win-It games. Each volunteer will be assigned to a group to stay with all day to lead them to different activities. If interested, email Kim Ellison at kellison@shawnee.edu, or call 740-351-3477.
Submit a quality proposal for the Choose Ohio First 2023 conference: 500 points*

Attend additional gaming conferences: 500 points each
Find a mentor who is currently working in a job relevant to your major, and meet with them in-person or virtually at least twice a semester: 500 points*
Propose your own special project, research or idea and proposed number of extra points. Send to aduduit@shawnee.edu for consideration no later than February 1, 2023.
Grand Prize for
Top Four Competition Winners
The top four will receive an all-expense paid trip
(transportation, food, lodging and admission)
to the East Coast Gaming Conference.
This event will be hosted by Triangle Game Initiative
at the Raleigh Convention Center (North Carolina) on April 18-20, 2023.
